Bringing Land Back to Life – Quantum2 Land Project “SP17”

The Challenge: Returning a Damaged Landscape Back to Productive Life
The 10-hectare site we purchased had been used for agricultural and polluting settlement purposes for years, leaving it degraded by chemical use and a lack of proper land management. Over time, pollution had seeped into the soil and groundwater, while the natural habitat had been pushed out by unsustainable farming practices.
“SP17” is about regenerating the landscape – restoring its natural ecosystems, improving the soil, and eventually transitioning it into organic farming. The results so far have been remarkable, and we’re excited to share the journey with you.
Key Metrics: Measuring Progress, Celebrating Success
Metrics tell the story of our progress. As of November 2024, we have achieved major targets and witnessed the emergence of a healthy, thriving landscape emerge:
- CO2 Reduction & Carbon Sequestration: We’ve exceeded our 30% target with a 31% increase in carbon soil sequestration. The soil carbon levels have jumped from 1.9% to 2.5%, contributing significantly to reducing atmospheric CO2 and improving overall soil health.
- Total Nitrogen: At 0.25%, our Quantum2 360 Sustainable Management has drastically reduced the need for synthetic nitrogen fertilisers, which not only helps our land but also protects the local waterways from nitrogen pollution as well as improving air quality, reduced during carbon spreading.
- Soil pH: At 7.4, the soil is within the optimal pH range for most plants, providing a healthy foundation for growth.
- Phosphorus Level: With a healthy 28 mg/kg of phosphorus, we support plant growth without risking nutrient imbalances that could harm the ecosystem.
- Zero harmful chemicals: We do not use any harmful chemicals, pesticides, and herbicides, and instead, we’re fostering natural plant growth to clean and regenerate the soil.
- Pollution Control: By ending the use of harmful chemicals, we’ve stopped pollution from leaching into rivers, groundwater, and eventually the sea.
- Hedgerow Expansion: We’ve expanded the hedgerows along the roadway, increasing the density by 17% - again exceeding our goal of 5% for this site. These hedgerows not only support wildlife habitats but also act as natural barriers against wind and soil erosion.
- Biodiversity Boost: the biodiversity has expanded considerably with a wide range of species discovered on site.
These figures are a direct result of our natural regeneration plan.
The Bigger Picture: A Model for Sustainable Regeneration
At “SP17”, we aim to inspire other real estate developers, farmers and landowners to take action, demonstrating that the benefits of returning to nature far outweigh the short-term convenience of conventional farming. We are actively documenting our results and sharing our insights with the broader community.
Looking Ahead: A Healthy, Productive Landscape
The road ahead for “SP17” is full of promise. The transformation from damaged land to a productive, sustainable ecosystem is already well underway – ready for both organic farming and sustainable real estate development.
Together, we’re proving that agriculture and real estate does not need to mean degradation; it can mean restoration. We can repair the damage of the past and build a future that’s healthy and sustainable.
