Quantum2 – our latest $507,000 land is reducing pollution, pesticides and CO2

At Quantum2, we and our members/ partners are excited to share another milestone with you: we recently added $507,000 worth of land to our ecosystem. This expansion will make a real, positive impact on our environment, health, and the future.

Our new land project is about regenerating conventional agricultural soil. That means eliminating pollutants including harmful pesticides and herbicides, increasing hedgerows and cleaning the groundwater, while reducing leaching into local runoff-channels and bringing down CO2.

Step-by-step we will turn this land into a source of organic produce that promotes health and well-being for everyone.

As we all know, over the years, many chemicals have been used to boost agricultural food production. Unfortunately, these chemicals stay in the soil and are dangerous to the health of the land and ourselves, even in the food we eat daily. That leads to many risks, with harmful elements which build up in the plant and in our bodies, accumulating over time.

We are stepping in to reverse this damage. By working to remove pollutants from the soil, we’re helping the land heal naturally. Our approach also involves increasing natural hedgerows – these are the areas of trees, plants and bushes that surround fields. These hedgerows protect the soil from erosion, provide homes for wildlife (which has a positive multiplier effect on the natural biome, helping the naturalisation process speed up), and help stop pollutants from spreading, amongst other positive benefits.

Another part of the project is improving the groundwater and reducing leaching into local runoff-channels. Removing pollutants, pesticides and chemicals, improving the soil heath and adding hedgerows, the land increases its ability to absorb and remove the pollutants which stops them leaking into water sources, thereby improving runoff quality and which lead to clean groundwater.

We can also begin organic farming. This means renewing the agricultural practices to grow food without harmful pesticides, herbicides, or fertilisers – instead using natural methods that are better for both people and the planet. Organic produce eliminates the pesticide risks, which an increasing number of studies show can affect our health with more and more problems as time goes on.

Choosing organic farming is a commitment to a way of farming that supports long-term soil health, protects biodiversity, and creates a healthy and better food for people. By growing clean food, we’re helping people make choices that support their health and the environment.

We are excited to keep growing (literally!). With each new piece of land we restore, we get closer to a future where land management is sustainable, and people have access to a healthy environment and food sources.

We invite you to join us on this journey. By being part of the Quantum2 community, you are part of a movement that not only values but takes direct action for the health of our planet and our people. Together, we’re building a better future – every time we add a new hectare of land.
