Self Governing Jobs — The Future Of Work

Right now many people are not satisfied with their working life. You might feel that you are working too much and do not have enough time for sleep, family, leisure or community. Or perhaps you do not fully enjoy the work you do. Some of your work may not interest you or you may have colleagues or bosses who you do not get on with. This leads to stress, dissatisfaction, unhappiness and a whole raft of physical and mental problems. Clearly the whole concept of work as we understand it now is flawed. We need a new solution.

A Question of Choice

Perhaps surprisingly much of these problems can be solved with choice. When you choose the amount of work you wish to do, choose the type of work that suits you (both which you enjoy and for which you have the right skills), choose the work you can succeed and feel happy with and work with the people you like — then your situation is totally different.

There are two elements needed to have a choice:

  1. You no longer need to work for money, but can choose to work for pleasure.
  2. You determine your own work, hours, free time and conditions.

Point a. is solved in the longer term with Land Units, a product we have introduced in the Quantum2 ecosystem. You can find out more about this herehere and here on the site itself Quantum2.io.

Point b. is solved by changing some or all work to self-governing.

The future vision of Quantum2 is that jobs will be self-governing. We have started to implement self-governing jobs in our ecosystem and the first option will be launched in late 2024.

What is Self-Governing Work?

Self-governing jobs work as follows:

A worker will choose the type of job which suits him/her. This is determined by his/her interest and skills. He/She may choose anything, or learn anything and his reward will be determined by his success in the job.

He/She will do a job for his client and agree a sum to pay and/or or the client will pay a sum which he feels is worthwhile for the performance of the job.

The better and the more effective help is provided and the more valuable the work is evaluated, then the larger the payment will be. If the worker does not have the right skills and does not learn them, his/her results will not be high quality and thus he/she will not be paid or he will not receive a small payment and thus will eventually do something else which is more suitable.

An example is customer support. Clients ask a range of questions where they need help. A support agent will offer to help with the problem. Depending how quickly and how good the answer is, determines how much the client will pay.

Working for pleasure, not money

Of course, since Land Units can be bought in the Quantum2 ecosystem, it means that eventually people will choose to work for pleasure rather than money. However, the same concept can still apply. Instead of money, the worker will receive another form of recognition.

Solving the issues

A number of potential issues can arise which cause self-governing work to be less effective. We will tackle these in our upcoming follow-up article.
